03 July 2015 IN STUDIOS 7/8
The Studios were packed to the edges with Society Members and Staff from The Australian Ballet School and the rehearsal was introduced by STEVEN HEATHCOTE much loved former Principal Artist. Steven is now Ballet Master & Regional Touring Associate and as such is responsible for The Dancers Company in its regional program.
He spoke about the program we were about to see mentioning that it was, in fact, the first time the students had performed in the costumes. Sometimes that can be a challenge especially as they can be heavy and floor-length and require special ‘handling’. As it turned out the costumes were very professionally managed by all the students who were beautifully trained and rehearsed by Classical teachers Joanne Michel (Ballet Mistress) and Dale Baker (Senior Ballet Master) of The Dancers Company.
The program was a Classical Triple Bill: Paquita (Petipa); Rimbombo (Simon Dow); and Swan Lake Act 111 all of which are entertaining to the audience and somewhat challenging to the young dancers both in the technique and artistry required. They did so very well and the audience was very appreciative. Congratulations to all concerned.
Society Members were able to get a tasty lunch in The Dancers Deli before the rehearsal and that was really appreciated. Thanks to all who attended and who obviously enjoyed the function.
