David McAllister and Gabriela Tylesova.
This function was designed to give Society Members a look into the background of the vision and design of David’s new production of The Sleeping Beauty and it proved to be quite fascinating.
Not only did we hear about the designs of the sets and costumes but we actually had the Lilac Fairy costume on display in all its glorious colour and beauty. The sketches of the costumes were rolling on the screen behind the speakers who referred to them as they spoke.
David spoke of the background to the selection of period and colours and his vision of what it meant to him and Gabriela added her vision of what would do David’s vision justice as far as design was created. It was fascinating and our Members and guests were totally intrigued.
David has a joyous way of expressing his enthusiasm, often with actions, and along the way he detailed his view of how best to show the story which we all know and love but probably don’t really ‘get’ the little details which make the fairytale work.
There were lots of questions from the audience at the end and then everyone crowded around the costume on display for photos and lots of ‘ooz and ahs’ from everyone.
A delicious supper and lots of talking finished a very happy and stimulating evening.
