This was a special evening for Lindy – it was her Birthday so the evening opened with a beautiful Birthday Cake with sparklers and a hearty rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ with lots of loud cheering. The audience included some of her students which made it more special for Lindy.
Simon led Lindy through her life gently and with his usual charm and Lindy was an articulate speaker who spoke of her childhood when ballet was simply something she did because physically it was good for her body. It was only late in her youthful training that she realised she was good at it, actually enjoyed it and became ambitious about reaching the elite level, which she did becoming a Principal Artist with The Australian Ballet.
Lindy’s performances as the Baroness in Graeme Murphy’s Swan Lake and the quirky Carabosse in David McAllister’s The Sleeping Beauty will always be remembered as will the many other major lead performances in which Lindy shone.
After retiring from full-time performing, Lindy continued her successful photography career and also her classical teaching career with The Australian Ballet School.
The audience was intrigued and entertained by the evening as both Lindy and Simon have a dry sense of humour which makes hosting a function a joy.
To top it off, Lindy donated a stunning photo for auction and the bidding was fast and furious going for $500 to long-time supporter Dawn. Well done to all for a great evening.
