FIONA TONKIN ON COPPELIA:
Fiona spoke about the history of this delightful ballet in which she danced the lead role many times including often with David McAllister. Those of us in the audience remembered her performances with great pleasure. There were slides of past performances and these led to further discussion about different interpretations by dancers of the years since it was first introduced into the repertoire by Dame Peggy van Praagh in the 60s.
At Josie’s request, Fiona gave us an insight into the forthcoming ballet Nijinsky which the audience was also looking forward to seeing. She obviously was greatly impressed with everything about it particularly the incredibly challenging choreography for everyone on stage.
Questions came thick and fast from the audience and Fiona was entertaining and informative in her responses. It was a happy occasion all round.
