THE SLEEPING BEAUTY  COSTUMES EXHIBITION – Prepared and presented by MICHAEL WILLIAMS, recently retired Manager of Costume Department.  PENELOPE BJORKSTEN assisted with the set-up.

Studio 8 was a spectacle of colour and design and included the major costumes as well as the corps’ costumes.  The Members were given a complete cover of each costume and how they were built, including the time it took to produce them, how many staff (and volunteers) were required to get them completed on time.  Michael is a man full of fascinating details and also a man who has loved and lived with the costumes for decades so he knows what is required to make costumes which look extraordinary but are also created to allow movement and comfort for the dancer.

The hats were stunning and would be ‘a great success at the races’ as well and it was certainly agreed by all present that the Designer, Gabriela Tylesova, had done a glorious, over-the-top job which is just what David McAllister’s Production of The Sleeping Beauty  required and the audiences just loved.
